Job Description:
A cost estimation department in an auto parts manufacturing company calculates and predicts the expenses required to produce automotive components. They develop "should-cost" models to support customer quotations, negotiate with suppliers, and maximize profitability for the organization.
Core Responsibilities
- Price Quoting & Bidding: Create detailed piece-price calculations and cost breakdowns for OEMs and Tier-1 customers.
- Cost Modeling: Develop accurate "bottom-up" and parametric cost estimates covering raw materials, machining, assembly, tooling, overhead, and shipping
- Design & Process Analysis: Evaluate engineering drawings, Bill of Materials (BOMs), and manufacturing processes (e.g., casting, stamping, forging, molding) to suggest cost-effective alternatives
- Supply Chain Collaboration: Work with procurement and supply chain teams to validate vendor pricing and negotiate tooling costs
- Variance Analysis: Monitor ongoing production costs and benchmark them against initial estimates to maintain profit margins
