Job Description: 

1. Position Summary

The EHS Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations within the manufacturing facility. The role focuses on accident prevention, statutory compliance, risk assessment, and fostering a strong safety culture across the plant.


2. Key Responsibilities

A. Safety Management

  • Implement and monitor workplace safety programs and procedures.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments (RAC).
  • Ensure compliance with the Factories Act, safety standards, and internal policies.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and initiate corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Investigate accidents, near misses, and incidents; submit detailed reports.

B. Environmental Management

  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements (KSPCB / PCB norms, air & water consents, waste management).
  • Monitor hazardous waste handling, storage, and disposal.
  • Implement environmental protection initiatives (energy saving, water conservation, emissions control).
  • Maintain environmental records and documentation for audits.

C. Health & Occupational Safety

  • Conduct health risk assessments for employees.
  • Coordinate periodic medical check-ups and occupational health programs.
  • Ensure proper usage of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
  • Monitor workplace hygiene and ergonomic conditions.

D. Statutory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with:
    • Factories Act
    • ESI, Workmen Compensation (for injuries)
    • Environmental laws (Air, Water, Hazardous Waste Rules)
  • Liaise with government authorities (Factory Inspector, Pollution Control Board).
  • Maintain all statutory registers, licenses, and records with validity tracking.

E. Training & Awareness

  • Conduct safety induction for new employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Organize regular safety training programs, mock drills (fire, evacuation).
  • Promote safety awareness campaigns (5S, PPE usage, hazard reporting).

F. Emergency Preparedness

  • Develop and implement emergency response plans (fire, chemical spill, accidents).
  • Ensure availability and maintenance of firefighting systems.
  • Conduct mock drills and evaluate preparedness.

G. Contractor Safety Management

  • Ensure contractors follow EHS guidelines and statutory compliance.
  • Conduct safety audits and permit-to-work (PTW) control systems.
  • Monitor high-risk activities (hot work, confined space, working at height).

H. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain EHS records, reports, and MIS dashboards.
  • Track safety KPIs (LTIR, incidents, unsafe acts/conditions).
  • Prepare reports for management review meetings (MRM / EHS review).

4. Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma in Industrial safety
  • 6–8 years of experience in manufacturing EHS 

5. Reporting Structure

  • Reports to: Factory Manager

  • Compliance adherence (zero legal non-compliance)

  • Timely statutory renewals and reporting

7. Additional Responsibilities (Plant-Specific)

  • Support ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 systems
  • Ensure ESG compliance initiatives
  • Participate in customer and statutory audits
  • Support HR in safety-linked disciplinary actions
